Remember, your ghd IV styler is an electrical appliance and the plates achieve very high temperatures (typically 180ºC). So you need to be sensible and safe.

For example:

• Never use the ghd IV styler in the bathroom, over washbowls or near water.
• Never touch the plates when they are hot.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given supervision or instructions concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
• Use styling aids and spray products away from the iron. Never spray directly onto the styler.

You should always inspect your ghd IV styler before you use it. If the styler, power cord or plug are damaged, do not use the styler and seek professional advice from an electrician, an approved stockist or from Jemella Ltd.

Cherish and protect

Your ghd IV styler is a robust, state-of-the-art product. Cherish it with the love and care it deserves and you will be rewarded with long, devoted service.

• Always switch your styler off and unplug it after use
• Do not allow the hot plates to touch textiles, plastic materials, or heat-sensitive surfaces
• Always ensure that the hot plates do not come into contact with the supply cord: this could melt away the insulation and risk electrocution
• Never leave a hot styler unattended
• Always allow the plates to cool before storing
• When the styler has cooled, fold the supply cord in the same way as it was first delivered in its packaging. Do not wind it around your hand or the body of the styler and your styler will deliver the results every time
• When the styler is not in use, always lay it on a flat heat-resistant surface. Never hang the styler by its cable.

It's hard to tell the difference between a genuine ghd styler and a fake or rip-off styler that looks exactly the same. Legally these products are called counterfeits but you won't know that you have been ripped off until they malfunction. These aren't just other stylers, these are fake products made to look like real ghd's and they can be dangerous

The only way to be sure that you are buying real ghd stylers and not rip-offs is by purchasing from one of ghd's approved retailers. It is very important that you buy genuine ghd stylers rather than cheap knock-offs because the poor quality construction and lack of safety checks can cause serious injury, electrocution and burns, not to mention hair damage!

How can I tell if my ghd stylers are genuine?

Verifying that your stylers are genuine is simple, apart from the build quality (genuine ghd stylers should feel sturdy but light) each ghd styler should come in an official box which has a security seal at either end.

If the seal is broken, the next best method of identifying genuine ghd stylers is by checking for one of the two ghdholograms: one will be on the cable near the plug, the other will be on the inside of the styler’s arms. The holograms should have a picture of the irons on it with ghd written in the background as shown on the photo on the left.

Finally, each pair of ghd stylers has a unique registration code which you can use to register your ghd stylers on the official ghd website which verifies their authenticity.

You can check the authenticity of your new irons by clicking the picture of the hologram above and entering your styler's 15 digit hologram code. This can be found on the sticker attached to the wire of your ghd styler, just below the barcode.

Other signs that the retailer is selling counterfeit ghd stylers:

• The price is less than £80
• The stylers are being shipped from outside the UK
• There is no 2 year guarantee with the stylers
